Each month, this page will keep you informed of the latest news you can use when you become a member. The news is dependent on your feedback to us from the "field" in other words the local community's writers and independent booksellers. Our members and regular visitors are our eyes and ears to the world of short fiction. When you learn of something that could be of value to our visitors and members, let us know so that we can publish it here.

News About the Latest Grant Recipients, Graduations and New Self Published Authors

Stay tuned for the latest list of grant recipients, graduates and the brave soles who rolled up their sleeves in preparations for the daunting task of putting out your own book. Which, if you ask anyone who has done it - is the easiest in retrospect. Lets just hope that the books don't sit in the garage, because after printing comes the really difficult aspect of this business "Sellinem" that is the latest buzz word in the business! It is a special technique used to get people to give you money in return for that book you just printed...


  Northwest region:
The Tri-City Writers conference was a huge success - due to the efforts of the program committee, local volunteers and enthusiastic panel discussion.

 


 

  Northeast region:  
Hello folks, anything new going on in your neck of the woods?
 


 

   Midwest region:
The Upper Valley book store, or "Indie" as they are known in the book trade, had a sell out crowd for their local distributor sponsored meet the author party. It goes to show that not all the action is at the chain stores.



Events and Happenings

  • August 21-25 - The Gotham Writers group takes the train to nowhere as they plot the story for a "Murder Mystery"

  • Tampa Bay Writers Group is on a roll. They have a huge 50%
    increase in membership over 1998 due to a new campus.

  • South Florida Chapter of NWA is gearing up for their board of director elections.
